The Importance of Knowing Your Value

You may not know it but you are part of a movement to support women just like yourself, to be able to know your value in the workplace and at home, and to speak up for yourself with authority and grace in many different kinds of situations.

Let’s get clear on this movement: it’s all about standing up for yourself as a woman, speaking out for your worth, expecting respect and learning how to know your value.self-worth

If you want equal pay, more respect, and opportunities to have more impact in your world, you must start with how you value yourself. In my opinion, it’s the “inside job” – working on your self-confidence, respecting your own boundaries, and honoring your needs –  that creates your foundation for living well.

Women’s Worth Is Out Of The Closet

I’m glad it went public. I feel like it’s just been me, acting quite contrary as always, trying to crack open the edges of anything that feels confining to me, like the limiting rules I was raised with.

But now that women with celebrity status are speaking up, it’s official.

The mover and shaker behind Know Your Value is Mika Brzezinski. Even though I don’t like to watch the news on television, I’ve been one of Mika’s fans for several years. She cohosts the MSNBC Morning Joe show. What intrigued me was how she always stepped back and didn’t put herself front and center. Now, after a lot of self-reflection –  which she openly shares – she speaks much more frequently, with both authority and grace. I really like it. And the show has been featuring more issues about women’s roles and rights than it had in the past, which I’m sure is due to her influence.

Even though women (and men) have fought for equal pay for equal work, when celebrities speak out, as Patricia Arquette did at the Academy Awards when she accepted her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, more people pay attention.

I’m grateful to all the celebrities that speak out for women’s rights. They make it OK for all of us to speak out and speak up for what we want and deserve.

Are You Ready?

For the past 5 years, I’ve been teaching workshops and writing about how to ask for what you want and get it. My work focuses on teaching the beliefs and behaviors you need to confidently and gracefully speak up for yourself in order to have more of what you want in your life: whether that is money, love, respect, authority, time, boundaries, or freedom (or all of it!)

I wanted these ideas to catch fire and inspire women all over. I didn’t have the celebrity or visibility to make that happen. So I am moved and encouraged to see that my intuition about what was needed was so spot on when I started holding small workshops for women in my living room in 2010, teaching negotiation skills as well as encouraging women to look at the value they bring to their jobs and their relationships.

Mika and company will travel around the country bringing a day-long Know Your Value event to women in Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Boston, Chicago and Orlando with speakers and workshops and lots of good skills and information.

If you can’t make it to the one-day event AND you’re ready to know your value and speak up for what you’re worth, here’s what you can do now:

  • Let’s look at how you can know your value – jump start your confidence with a complimentary session (that means it’s free!) with me where we will together look at your strengths as well as where you want to be able to ask for what you want more clearly and confidently.
  • Learn to say no graciously and effectively – get a copy of my 5 Easy To Use Strategies To Say No here.

Thank you for being part of this community and now part of a much larger visible movement!

To your success,

Marsha
